Lotus (Kamal)
Also known as: Kamal, Padma
The lotus is the most sacred flower in Indian art — a symbol of purity, rebirth and beauty rising unstained from muddy water.
Carved on printing blocks for centuries, the lotus appears as single blooms, repeating buds and full medallions. In Sanganeri and Bagru printing it anchors borders and central 'buta' motifs alike. Its symmetry makes it a natural fit for all-over 'jaal' repeats on dupattas and quilts.
